POSITION SUMMARY:

The SCADA, MES, and Data Systems Engineer will support and enhance our industrial technology stack. This role includes maintaining and evolving our Ignition SCADA system, managing the Canary Labs Historian, supporting Manufacturing Execution System (MES) functionality, and ensuring reliable data integration across systems and into our Snowflake Data Lake. This role will collaborate with the operations leadership, shop floor, data and analytics and information technology teams. In this player/coach role, the SCADA, MES, and Data Systems Engineer will serve as both a developer and a strategic leader for IoT reporting and integration.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance the Ignition SCADA platform. Configure tags, screens, UDTs, alarms, and gateway scripting.
  • Support connectivity with PLCs and other industrial devices (OPC UA, MQTT, etc.).
  • Ensure system uptime, performance, and security across plant operations.
  • Administer the Canary Historian to ensure accurate and efficient time-series data logging.
  • Configure new data points, manage retention policies, and maintain Canary Views.
  • Support the historianâ??s integration into reporting, analytics, and third-party systems.
  • Configure and support MES functionality such as production scheduling and execution, downtime tracking and reason codes, OEE dashboards and shift reporting, traceability, material tracking, and lot genealogy.
  • Collaborate with operations and quality teams to refine and evolve MES workflows.
  • Implement run rules, alerting logic, SPC charting, and quality data capture.
  • Drive continuous improvement through data visibility and digital workflows.
  • Design and maintain reliable data pipelines from Ignition/Canary into Snowflake.
  • Transform raw industrial data into structured formats for enterprise analytics.
  • Collaborate with Data Engineering and IT teams to maintain data integrity, security, and performance.
  • Create and maintain documentation for all integrations and data flow.
  • Demonstrate regular attendance and timeliness in reporting to work, meetings, and completing assignments.
  • Ability to work and interact well with others.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor degree in computer science, information systems, engineering, or another related field is required.

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience with Ignition SCADA (Inductive Automation) in a discrete manufacturing environment.

Required Skills:

  • Experience supporting or deploying MES applications (Ignition Perspective, Sepasoft, or Oracle).
  • Aptitude with data historian (Canary, PI, etc.)
  • Expertise integrating OT data with cloud platforms.
  • Solid knowledge of industrial protocols (OPC UA, MQTT, Modbus, etc.).
  • Strong SQL skills; experience building queries/views for dashboards and analytics.
  • Hands on knowledge of shop floor operations.
  • Strong communication skills, verbal as well as written, for end user documentation and technical requirements mapping.
  • Ability to bridge the gap between plant floor operational requirements and system requirement.

Preferred Skills:

  • Understanding of Fusion Smart Operations.
  • Proficiency with Canary Labs Historian and configuration of Views/API access.
  • Familiarity with Unified Namespace architectures.
  • Python scripting for data transformation or gateway scripting in Ignition.
  • Experience with manufacturing KPIs (OEE, scrap, uptime, SPC) and root-cause tracking.
  • Working knowledge of IT/OT cyber security and networking principles.
  • Snowflake APIs and integration of SCADA with Oracle Fusion.
  • Experience with configuration of PLCs, HMIs and edge computing.
  • Experience with Fanuc, Rockwell Automation and other automation solutions.

SPECIAL DEMANDS

  • Must demonstrate adaptability and responsiveness to off-schedule requests or emergencies in support of business-critical functions.
  • Must maintain a valid driverâ??s license.
  • Ability to travel to remote locations.
  • Ability to bend/squat/reach/climb on occasion.
